It goes without saying that any list of the best super cars is going to have a Lamborghini on it. In this case the 2002 Lamborghini Murcielago is the car that makes the list. This should not come as a surprise since it is the top of the line offering from the company. The new car represents a pretty big change for Lamborghini and most people have found it to be a positive one.
The 2002 Lamborghini Murcielago of course has a large powerful engine; in this case it is a 6.2 liter V12 that produces 572 horse power. In a lot of ways the company has stuck to tradition with this car. For years the top of the line Lamborghini products have been mid-engine V12's. This is clearly a case of if it ain't broke don't fix it. The car is of course very fast in a straight line and it really accelerates quickly. The power goes to all four wheels which helps to improve the handling which is significantly improved over older designs.
One area where the 2002 Lamborghini Murcielago really shines is in terms of style. Most models that the company produces have a look that people either love or hate, this was certainly true of the Murielago's predecessor the Diablo. In particular the cars tend to look dated by the time they get to the end of their production run. This seems unlikely in this case however as the car has nice clean lines that most people find to be attractive. Although performance is the most important thing with a super car it is still nice to have a car that looks good.
The 2002 Murcielago is the first model that the company has produced since they were taken over by Audi. This has resulted in some pretty big differences over previous models. The biggest improvement is in terms of comfort. In the past Lamborghinis were well known for being uncomfortable to drive, especially for larger drivers. The new model has larger and more comfortable seats as well as a larger foot well. By no means should you call the Murcielago a practical car, because it really isn't. However the new car is a lot more practical and comfortable than most other cars the Lamborghini has produced.
The 2002 Lamborghini Murcielago actually represents a pretty important step for the company. They are now part of the Audi family and they share engineering work with the company's other brands. This has already had a significant impact on the car and it will certainly have an even bigger one in the future. That being said there are certain things that anybody buying a Lamborghini has come to expect and Audi have made sure that these expectations are met. They have retained the heart of a Lamborghini well at the same time making it more refined. The result is a much better car.
Oh and euh. I rented one once, and could hardly keep it straight when I put my foot down. It's hyper.
